Areas of Competition
The Michigan Galaxy Pageant is a traditional beauty pageant for girls of Michigan who are ages 6-14. Areas of competition include: Photogenic, Private Interview, Fashion, and Evening Gown. Each area of competition is equally weighted at 25%. Finalists will answer an on-stage question for bonus points.
Opening Production Number (not judged).
The Michigan Galaxy Pageant will include a choreographed opening number. Delegates must provide their own attire for opening number as specified by 3D Productions, MI. Information about the 2010 Opening Production Number and required attire to be posted when available. The Opening Production Number is not judged.
Photogenic (25%)
3D Productions, MI relies heavily upon advertising in industry publications and the internet to promote the Michigan Galaxy Pageantâ„¢. Therefore, titleholders must possess photogenic appeal and ability to project an image consistent with beauty and elegance. Photo requirements:
- Color photo of your choice
- At least 5X7, no larger than 8X10
- May be in either a seated or standing position.
- Must be of good quality and clarity.
- Emailed photos are acceptable if scanned at 300 dpi
Judging criteria: photogenic appeal, photo quality and clarity, beauty of face and figure, personality, grooming and fashion sense.
Must submit a copyright release if required by her photographer.
Airbrushing should be kept to a minimum. You should look like your photo.
Interview (25%)
Michigan Galaxy titleholders must be articulate with excellent social and conversational skills. Titleholders must be able to express themselves clearly, diplomatically, and must project a pleasant personality at all times.
Interviews are conducted panel style for a duration of 5 minutes.
Focuses primarily on delegates’ personal information (e.g., hobbies, ambition, etc.) but may include opinion questions that require general knowledge of social and current events.
Wear a dress, suit, or pantsuit for the interview competition.
Judging criteria: conversational skill, personality, demeanor, beauty, grooming, and fashion sense.
Fashion (25%)
Michigan Galaxy titleholders must be able to project their own personal sense of style. This segment will be conducted very much like a runway fashion show. Fashion attire can be anything the delegate feels represents a currently popular or stylish ensemble. Judges will be looking for high energy, spirit, and the delegate’s sense of contemporary style for today’s girl. Judges are not looking for a specific style or designer label but rather how well the attire suits the delegate (e.g., fit, color, style) as well as delegate’s on-stage presentation. Competition details:
Attire is dressy-casual and may be a dress or pants outfit.
Delegates are encouraged to accessorize with earrings, jackets, hats, gloves, etc.
Accessories may be used as “props” for modeling
Bare midriffs are acceptable but must be tasteful and complement size and figure.
Very casual attire (e.g., shorts, jeans, dockers) is not recommended
Judging criteria: modeling, personality, beauty, grooming and fashion sense.
Evening Gown (25%)
Michigan Galaxy/ titleholders must carry themselves with dignity, grace, poise and elegance. Judges will not be evaluating the cost or designer label of the gown, but rather how well it suits the delegate (e.g., fit, color, style) as well as delegate’s on-stage presentation.
Evening gown must be floor length.
Teens are permitted to wear sophisticated, beaded gowns.
Judging criteria: modeling, personality, beauty, grooming and fashion sense.
On-Stage Question (bonus pts, finalists only)
Michigan Galaxy titleholders must be able to express themselves with confidence. Finalists will respond to a question on-stage to earn up to 10 bonus points which will be added to each finalists’ composite score. The question will be taken from information listed on the delegate’s fact sheet.
